Newsletter - December 10
Dear Parents,
Thanks for all of your help to make this a wonderful week for the children. We were busy practicing for our chapel and Christmas caroling. The kids did an amazing job and I'm so proud of them! The people at the nursing home were so touched and we really got a chance to share the love of Jesus with them. Our hope for our chapel was that we could remind ourselves and others to give a gift to Jesus this Christmas!
We managed to do some work this week too. We finished up our reading and science units on "Weather". I was able to finish December assessments with most of the children. It is amazing to see how far they have come. They have all been working hard!
A few reminders:
*We are not having a spelling list this week.
*Monday is the last day to order hot lunch.
*Tuesday we will spend most of the day at the church practicing for the Christmas Concert Tues. night. Your child will need to bring a lunch.
*Wednesday is Polar Express Day. Your child may come to school dressed in pajamas! Make sure they have real shoes and a coat because we will play outside and have pe that day.
*Friday we have chapel, a Christmas Party and then dismissal to follow.
Our Star Student will be Abbie
The Secret Word is "Caroling"
Have a wonderful weekend!

Newsletter - December 2nd
Dear Parents,
We had a wonderful and chilly week back. We started our Advent Countdown in Bible. We are learning about Jesus' life and the gift he is to us. In Writer's Workshop we learned how to write a "Piggyback Paragraph." That is a paragraph with supporting sentences for each of the middle sentences. We had Mrs. Tomlin's 10th grade English class come and buddy write with us the same day. I hope you heard about it. I am amazed at how far every child has come as a writer this year! In reading and science we've been learning about the weather. This week we talked about how meteorologists make predictions.
We started preparing for our class chapel. It's going to be really cute. Each child needs to bring an empty box wrapped to look like a Christmas Gift (no Santa paper please) by Tuesday. We will be using these as a prop in our performance. The day of our chapel each child should wear Christmas colors (for when we go caroling). Each child will wear a Nativity costume over his/her clothes. I will send those home by Thursday so your child can come dressed for chapel.
There are a lot of things going on in the next couple of weeks so you may want to print out the list this week:)
*We are going to McDonald's after caroling on Friday the 10th. We have lots of parents coming! We are going to pre-order a chicken nugget Happy Meal with juice for each child. Please send in $4.00 on Monday 12/6 to cover the cost of lunch and transportation.
*The last day to order hot lunch will be Monday, December 13th. The rest of that week you will need to pack a lunch for your child.
*Tuesday, December 14th we will spend most of the day at Northside Baptist Church practicing for the Elementary Christmas Concert that night. Please let me know if your child will not be coming to the program so I don't have them practice in the dress rehearsal.
*Wednesday, December 15th will be Polar Express Day in first grade. Your child may come to school wearing pajamas that day!
*Friday, December 17th will be a half day for students. We will have a Christmas chapel at the regular time. Then we will come back to the classroom for a small Christmas celebration. We have decided to give students the opportunity to bring in a new toy to donate to a less fortunate child. If you'd like to do that, send an unwrapped gift to school any day that last week and we'll put it under the tree. You can sign up on the door of our classroom to send in an item for the celebration or for Polar Express Day.
