Final First Grade Newsletter

Dear Parents,
I cannot believe we just finished our last full week of first grade. This year has been amazing. It has been my joy to see each child grow academically, spiritually, and truly mature into almost 2nd graders. It's going to be hard to let this group go, but I've been promised hugs next year:)

Your child will be bringing home some workbooks that are not completed. Feel free to use them over the summer to keep skills sharp. I am also highly recommending the First to Second Grade Bridges book. This is an excellent way to review first grade material and be ready for second grade. You can purchase these at any book store. Also, keep reading!!!! Next week in your child's award packet, you'll find the summer reading list for 2nd grade.

You do not need to send the Friday Folder back to school-this will be the last one.

Here is our schedule for the last week of school:
All Week - No Uniforms required. See school handbook for dress code. See insert about the Used Uniform Sale.
Monday - "normal" day
Tuesday - Desk Clean Out. Backpacks will be extra full this day.
Wednesday - End of the Year Breakfast. Parents are welcomed, but not required:). Final First Grade Store. This day will also be Game Day. Students may bring a game to play with their friends. (DS's are ok. We will keep them in the classroom.)
Thursday - Awards and early dismissal - last day of school. There is NO AFTERCARE THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL. ALL STUDENTS MUST BE PICKED UP BY 11:30.
Friday - Happy Summer!

The secret word is "I love First Grade!"

Have a wonderful weekend!

Newsletter - May 13, 2011

Dear Parents,
Happy Friday! Thanks for your patience this week as I was out for a reading conference the first part of the week. It was an amazing opportunity to grow as a professional at a national level. It sounds like the kids did a great job for Mrs. Leary.
We are all excited about our chick eggs in first grade. We've been learning all about how they develop in the egg. I hope you hear all about it!
As the year draws to a close, we find ourselves doing things for the "last" time. This week was our last spelling test and your last homework for first grade is in the Friday Folder. We are all getting excited about summer and at the same time a little sad that we won't be a class family next year. Every child has worked so hard and learned so much this year. We are all ready for 2nd grade!

Here are a few announcements and reminders:
*No spelling tests.
*See the insert in the Friday Folder about the Spring Concert and Field/Movie Day.
*Our End of the Year Breakfast will be on Wednesday, May 25 (instead of the last day). There will be a sign up sheet on the door...thanks.
*Thursday, May 26th will be our last day of school. We will have a short award ceremony in the classroom at 8:15 until about 9:00. At that time, students may either go home with parents or stay at school for a half day. After care is provided.

Have a wonderful weekend!

May 6th Newsletter

Dear Parents,
Happy Mother's Day! Your children had so much fun celebrating you this week. It was wonderful to see all of the moms in our classroom on Thursday. Thanks for making Muffins with Mom so special.
I also want to say thank you for your part in Teacher Appreciation Week. The daily snacks and Thursday's luncheon were really a treat. Thanks for trusting your children with me every day!
As we get closer to the end of the year, we are reviewing concepts we've learned through the year to make sure we're all ready for second grade. Everyone is doing great with double digit addition with regrouping too. We've been reading lots of books about the planets this week. I hope you've heard some interesting facts.
I wanted to let you know that next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday I will be in Orlando for a national reading conference. Mrs. Leary will be our substitute teacher. If you have any questions or concerns while I'm gone, please see Mrs. Fleming.

The secret word is "Mom".

Have a Great Weekend!
