Newsletter - May 13, 2011

Dear Parents,
Happy Friday! Thanks for your patience this week as I was out for a reading conference the first part of the week. It was an amazing opportunity to grow as a professional at a national level. It sounds like the kids did a great job for Mrs. Leary.
We are all excited about our chick eggs in first grade. We've been learning all about how they develop in the egg. I hope you hear all about it!
As the year draws to a close, we find ourselves doing things for the "last" time. This week was our last spelling test and your last homework for first grade is in the Friday Folder. We are all getting excited about summer and at the same time a little sad that we won't be a class family next year. Every child has worked so hard and learned so much this year. We are all ready for 2nd grade!

Here are a few announcements and reminders:
*No spelling tests.
*See the insert in the Friday Folder about the Spring Concert and Field/Movie Day.
*Our End of the Year Breakfast will be on Wednesday, May 25 (instead of the last day). There will be a sign up sheet on the door...thanks.
*Thursday, May 26th will be our last day of school. We will have a short award ceremony in the classroom at 8:15 until about 9:00. At that time, students may either go home with parents or stay at school for a half day. After care is provided.

The secret word is "chick".

Have a wonderful weekend!

Dawn Newland
